Do you get overwhelmed by packing? Is packing your least favorite part of a vacation? I personally do not know anyone who likes packing for a trip! It can be easy to forget things or pack the wrong items by accident. That’s why a checklist can be very handy when packing! Since packing for a short trip is very different than packing for a long trip, we’ve created a weekend camping checklist that is perfect for those short adventures that can fit in a small duffel bag or backpack.
If you’re just going camping for a weekend, you’ll have a pretty good idea of what the weather will be. Watch the up-coming forecast and pack accordingly. Bring along the appropriate clothes plus one extra of everything for good measure. The same goes for camping footwear and jackets. This may change slightly if you will be camping in colder weather, but not by much.
When packing your toiletries, it makes it much easier to fit everything into your bag if you buy travel-sized items or use small travel-sized bottles that you can pour your shampoo and body wash into. You won’t need 10 ounces of shampoo for the weekend, so why burden yourself with lugging a huge bottle with you? The same goes for lotion, body wash, and other items you may need to bring. Be sure to bring along all-natural soaps, as they are more biodegradable and better for the environment.
It may seem like a good idea to bring wood for your campfire, but don’t! No matter how long or short your trip is, it is best to stop and purchase it close to your campsite. Not only does this save you the hassle of carting it with you, but you’ll avoid the danger of introducing “foreign” insects and plant illness into an environment that cannot handle it.
Use this weekend camping checklist to help you pack what you need and leave behind what you don’t.
